Echoes in Motion

'Immerse yourself truly in the mysteries of nature ...

In Echoes in Motion I weave various elements of nature into a dance piece.

I am accompanied on stage by five trees that bring out a sense of peace. By emphasizing our inherent connection to nature, I also seek for a sense of connection with my audience. Central to my artistic vision is the realization that our collective well-being is closely tied to the well-being of nature itself. By cherishing the environment, supporting each other and encouraging self-care, we can make a meaningful change.

In my movement research, I draw inspiration from the rhythmic patterns found in nature, while also delving into movements that symbolize liberation from enclosure. The pulsing movement of the chest emerges as a central point, serving as both an outlet for expression and a hub of connection. Throughout the performance the cyclical character of movement is felt, which is symbolized by a centrally rotating small platform. The continuous flow of life, an echo of the constant rhythms of nature.

In close collaboration with costume designer Roxane Van de Wouwer, textures of nature are integrated into the costume, as a tribute to the beauty and resilience of Mother Earth.

Roxane Van de Wouwer, a Costume Design Master student at the Antwerp Royal Academy school, crafts a distinctive artistic universe intertwining the human body with its surroundings, exploring themes of nature and impermanence through delicate textures and materials.
